Why Does My GTR V1 Have Harsh, All-or-Nothing Braking?Updated 4 days ago

If your GTR Series 1 board is braking too aggressively — as in, it’s either full brake or nothing — you’re not alone. This can be caused by a few different things, and we’ll walk you through what to check before considering a replacement part.

🔄 Step 1: Perform a Trigger Reset

Before diving into the hardware, recalibrate your remote triggers. This ensures that your remote correctly registers your throttle and brake inputs. If the brake trigger values are off, it can feel like there’s no modulation — just hard braking.

🔌 Step 2: Check for Motor Controller Resistance

Still no improvement after the trigger reset? With your board powered off, try gently spinning the wheels by hand:

  • If they spin freely — that’s normal.

  • If you feel resistance, like the motor is holding itself back, it usually indicates that the motor controller is faulty.

This happens when one of the circuits inside the controller doesn’t discharge correctly, creating drag and causing aggressive or erratic braking.

🛠 What to Do Next

If you’ve already replaced the motor and tested different remotes, and the issue persists, then:

It’s very likely the motor controller is the cause.

This part will need to be replaced.

Quick Recap:

  • Try a trigger reset first

  • Check for resistance in the wheels with the board off

  • If resistance is present = likely motor controller fault
