🔋 Why Are My Battery Cells Showing Red? What You Need to Know

If you’re seeing red cells on your Phaze remote’s battery data screen, don’t panic — but do pay attention. This guide explains what those red values mean and when it’s time to send your battery in for assessment.

🔎 What the Red Cell Indicator Means

Your remote highlights cells in red if they stand out from the others. That could mean they’re higher or lower than average — it’s a visual cue, not always a sign of damage. However:

  • Cells slightly above the rest (e.g. 4.22V vs 4.19V): This is generally safe and will balance out naturally.

  • Cells noticeably below the rest: If even one cell is significantly lower and shown in red (e.g. 3.19V when the rest are 4.12V+), this indicates imbalance and the battery needs to be checked.

📉 Low or imbalanced cells can affect performance, cause premature shutdown, or put strain on your system. This applies at any time, not just after charging.

✅ What’s Considered Normal?

  • Healthy cells: Green and within 0.1V of each other.

  • Red (above): One or two slightly higher cells? Fine.

  • Red (below): ⚠ One or more cells under the others by more than 0.1V? That’s a warning sign.

  • Example: If 11 cells are at 4.12V and 1 is at 3.19V — the battery is out of balance and must be inspected.

🛠 What To Do

If you’re seeing red cells:

  1. Take a photo of your Battery Data screen.

  2. Compare voltages — is one cell more than 0.1V lower?

  3. Send it in: If yes, complete our repair form. It’s quick and we’ll get it sorted.

This applies to the following boards:

💡 Tip: Batteries naturally balance after riding or resting, so don’t stress if cells are slightly red after a charge. However, a single cell that consistently reads lower? That’s your cue to act.
