Seeing “gtr_bms” When Updating Through the App on Your Series 1 GTR?Updated 3 days ago
If you’re using the Explore by Evolve app and notice “gtr_bms” showing up when trying to update your Series 1 GTR, here’s what’s going on.
Quick Note for Android Users
If you’re using an Android device and scanning for Bluetooth without the Explore app, “gtr_bms” might appear under visible devices. That’s completely normal and doesn’t affect your riding experience.
What It Means
Seeing “gtr_bms” means the app is detecting your board’s Battery Management System (BMS), but not the motor controller. This usually happens with early Series 1 GTR models.
If your board asks for a pairing code, that confirms the motor controller would need to be sent in to us to be updated.
Do You Need to Update?
In most cases, no. If you’re already enjoying the standard Eco, Sport, and GTR modes, there’s honestly no major benefit to updating your Custom ride mode. The only real addition would be custom speed settings, which provide minimal difference in day-to-day riding—definitely not enough to justify the cost and hassle of shipping in your controller.
Still Keen on Updating?
We get it, some riders want all the latest features. If you do want to go ahead, just reach out to us and we’ll help you arrange the next steps to send in your motor controller.
Otherwise, keep riding and enjoying your board. You’re not missing out on much.
