Travelling with Your Board – What You Need to Know About Travel Batteries

If you’re planning to fly with your electric skateboard, it’s essential to understand lithium battery regulations. Most airlines only allow lithium-ion batteries under 160Wh (watt hours) in carry-on baggage. Anything larger is typically restricted due to safety regulations.

🔋 What Is a Travel Battery?

Our Travel Battery is a specially designed 144Wh lithium-ion pack built to comply with airline regulations. It offers significantly reduced range compared to standard batteries (typically around 10–15 km, depending on rider weight, terrain, and speed), but it allows you to legally and safely carry your board on most commercial flights.

✅ Boards Compatible With the Travel Battery

These boards have the correct internal configuration and voltage compatibility (36V system) to support the travel battery:

• Stoke Series 1 

• Stoke Series 2 

• GTR Series 1

• GTR Series 2

These boards allow for relatively easy swapping of batteries using basic tools.

❌ Boards NOT Compatible With Travel Battery

These newer models run on higher capacity battery systems (518Wh to 864Wh) and use higher output voltage controllers (e.g., 43.2V nominal). They are not designed to run on lower-voltage packs, and retrofitting them with smaller batteries is not supported and will void warranty.

✈️ Important Airline Notes

Even with a travel battery:

• Always check with your airline before flying

• Carry the battery in your carry-on, not in checked luggage

• Remove the battery from the board if requested by airline staff

• Be prepared to show the Wh rating label printed on the battery case

🛠️ Can I Swap the Battery Myself?

Yes — if you own a compatible board (Stoke or GTR Series 1 or 2), battery replacement can be done with just a few tools. We’re happy to walk you through it in-store, or you can follow our video guides on YouTube.
