GT - Odd NoisesUpdated 2 years ago

As the board has many moving components, there can be several causes of noise.

Rattle or Click

This could be indicative of a loose nut or bolt, a damaged bearing or component. Try to isolate where it is coming from.

  • Wheel: check the bearings. They should move smoothly and freely, with a well-lubricated/healthy bearing showing a small amount of resistance.
  • Board: Tighten all the nuts and bolts across the board.
  • Driveline*Remove all the wheels, bearings, belts and drive gears. Check the bearings spin smooth, the drive gears and belts are free from rocks and debris, and that the bolts are tight.
  • Motor: With the driveline still dissembled, connect the remote to the board and accelerate. If the sound remains, it will likely be the motor at which point we recommend you contact our tech support team.

If the sound disappears, reassemble the driveline on one side and test. Repeat with the other side. This could assist in isolating which side the noise is coming from. You could also move the components around one by one to isolated the noise.

Squeak

  • Hardware/Lubrication: This could be indicative of dirty hardware or a lack of lubrication. The video below explains how to maintain and lubricate your board. The parts to focus on are the bushings and pivot cups.
  • Bamboo Deck: In rare circumstances, a bamboo deck could be squeaking. The most likely cause is dried out timber after being exposed to moisture or humidity over time. Lightly sanding any exposed areas and resealing them may help.

Rubbing Noise

This is almost always driveline* related. Inspect the driveline for the below, it should be reasonably apparent.

  • Belt: A damaged belt could be rubbing on the gear or belt cover. We recommend replacing the belt in this case.
  • Tyre: An all-terrain tyre could be contacting the belt cover. Remove the wheel and bearings and add an additional speed-ring between the inner wheel bearing and the drive gear. This will increase the distance between the wheel and belt cover and should alleviate the concern.

Grinding

This is indicative of a damaged component.

  • Bearing: A damaged bearing should be easy enough to identify. If a bearing has reached this point, we recommend replacing all your bearings.
  • Motor: A grinding motor will be quite obvious. If you have isolated the concern to a motor, please contact our tech support team with a short video and the details of your concern.

* Driveline = wheel, bearings, drive gears and belts.
