GTR - Reduced RangeUpdated 2 years ago

Many factors can affect overall range, from riding style, the substrate ridden on, the environment, ambient temperature, battery age, tyre pressure, rider weight and the list goes on. If you have seen a sharp decrease in range or believe your range hasn't been affected by one of these factors, read on.

Ambient Temperature

Batteries perform best around 25C˚  and this is what the advertised range is based on.

In general for the cell sizes we use, at 10C˚  a lithium-ion battery loses about 25% of its power and at 0C˚  it can be as much as 50%. If you are riding in temperatures of 15C˚  or below you will likely see a reduction in range.

Tyre Pressure

All-Terrain tyre pressure must be monitored regularly. The PSI should sit between 40 and 50. Having low pressures will reduce range and this is the most common cause of range concerns. Tyres at 20 PSI can easily more than halve your range.

Other

If you believe that it is the board itself and not related to any of the above factors, we recommended riding the board until it turns off, so ride down to 0% then keep riding until it is completely drained (i.e. when the power switch on the board is no longer solid blue). Ensure you do this in a safe area at a speed you are comfortable with. Then, charge the board to full in a single charge (until the light turns green on the charger).

This process should recalibrate the BMS (Battery Management System). It is recommended to do this twice and should alleviate the concern.

If you are still experiencing the concern, or the board is not dropping in 1% increments, contact our tech support team.
